Bringing portable X-ray tech to Africa after a successful factory visit

We recently hosted a client from Africa at our manufacturing facility to get some hands-on time with our latest 5kW portable digital X-ray system. While specification sheets and remote demos are helpful, there is no substitute for standing in front of the machine and seeing how the hardware actually responds in a real-world setting.

In our showroom—marked by the flags of the many international partners we support—the conversation with our lead engineer focused on one thing: clinical reliability in the field.

Why the 5kW Portable Unit?

The machine they were testing, a 5kW high-frequency portable unit, is designed for environments where mobility is the primary constraint. Whether it’s a rural clinic with limited space or a veterinary practice requiring visits to off-site locations, the footprint of this machine is its biggest advantage.

During the demonstration, the client was particularly interested in the touch-screen interface. Unlike older units that rely on cumbersome physical dials, this system uses a simplified anatomical map. In the image from the visit, you can see the engineer highlighting the selection process:

  • Intuitive Presets: The screen allows the operator to select the body part (human or animal) and the system automatically suggests the starting parameters.
  • Real-time Adjustments: You can see the machine set at 58 kV and 50 mA for a specific limb shot. Being able to toggle these numbers with a quick tap means faster throughput for busy clinics.
  • Weight and Form: At roughly 15–20kg, the head unit is light enough to be mounted on a mobile trolley or carried in a ruggedized case for outdoor use.

Field-Ready Specifications

For practitioners in remote regions, power stability and equipment durability are top priorities. This 5kW unit (often paired with a 17×17 inch flat panel detector) provides:

  • 100kHz Inverter Frequency: This ensures a stable X-ray output and high-definition imaging even at lower doses.
  • Versatile kV/mAs Range: With a range from 40kV to 125kV, it has the penetration power for both small animal diagnostics and standard human radiographic exams.
  • Digital Integration: The system connects directly to a laptop or workstation, allowing images to be shared or reviewed within seconds of exposure.

The Value of Personal Partnership

Visits like these are critical. They allow us to hear directly from healthcare providers about the specific challenges they face, from dust protection in arid climates to the need for simplified maintenance. It’s not just about selling a 5kW generator; it’s about ensuring that the engineer who built the machine can explain the logic of the software to the person who will rely on it to treat patients.

We are proud to see our equipment heading to diverse healthcare landscapes across Africa, and we look forward to the continued feedback that helps us refine these mobile solutions.
